Record heat! Ways to stay cool.

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Record high temps today in San Diego.  Here’s a few ways to stay cool:

1. Hit The Beaches

Just may wanna think twice about getting in the water after the shark attack. But when the temp gets hot, the hot head to the beach. Pacific, Mission, Del Mar, Coronado or my personal favorite, Windansea…doesn’t matter. Just head west, fight for a parking space, bake on the sand, and then cool off in the Pacific Ocean.

2. Hit The Swimming Pool

Local community pools are great ways to cool off and keep an eye on the children easily. San Diego has a number of municipal pools, with the Morley Field pool in Balboa Park one of the better known ones. The Mission Beach PlungeThe Mission Beach Plungein Belmont Park is a huge indoor pool, and the Salvation Army Joan Kroc Community Center in Rolando.

3. Hit The Ice Rink

It might seem strange at first to think of ice skating in the April, but what more obvious way to stay chilled than on a big ol’ slab of ice? San Diego has a few ice rinks around town to try your legs at ice skating, including the rink at the Westfield Univerity Town Center mall, the San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa, and the ice rink at the Salvation Army Joan Kroc Center.

4. Hit The Flicks

Most people choose to hit the local multi-plex, and why not? It’s dark, cool (some say freezing), it smells like popcorn, and with any luck, the movie might even be worth the $9 bucks. As for choices? Any multi-plex with stadium seating. AMC Fashion Valley, Pacific’s Grossmont Mall, and Pacific’s Gaslamp 15 are some good ones, and this weekends #1 movie is “Baby Mama”.

5. Hit The Shopping Mall

Let me qualify this suggestion: only an indoor mall and only if you’re a teen needing a place to hang out.  If you’re an adult, your primary reason to go to the mall is to shop, which isn’t exactly chillin’ out. And while you’re there, buy me something purdy!

Fergie’s Sex and the City song

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Having seen every episode of SATC, I’m pretty excited for the movie’s release next month! I mean, I really miss those feelings of inadequacy when I realize that Carrie’s Manolos are about $300 more than the Blue Book value of my car.

Anywho, here is Fergie’s song from the soundtrack, “Labels or Love“. Note the clever use of the show’s theme, and let me know what you think!

Kelly Clarkson singing for the Pope

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Pope!I have to admit, I missed most of the Pope-a-palooza coverage on the news. Luckily, most of the highlights are up on YouTube, including Kelly Clarkson’s gorgeous performance of “Ave Maria”.  Click here to watch, but beware: your eyes might tear up a little. Kelly did an absolutely stunning job.

Nasty co-worker? Here, have a jelly bean.

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I actually found these awhile back at the candy shop outside of the Hillcrest Landmark theatre.  And they are nasty!!!

One box, 10 colors, 20 flavors. Half taste delicious—Cafe Latte, Pear, Carmel Corn, etc. Their evil twins, though, taste like crap. Or pencil shavings. Or ear wax. And the only way to know which is which is to taste them.  (or offer innocently to a co-worker) muhahaha.

He allegedly got this in Japan (story here), but doesn’t it look like too much work to get all at once?
